SICAP - Climate & Just Transition
At Limerick City Partnership, our approach to climate action is grounded in climate justice and community inclusion. Ensuring a just transition is at the heart of this work. This means supporting people and communities to take climate actions that save money and improve quality of life. Our work is focused on strengthening local communities who are advocating for a just transition to a fairer and greener environment for all.
This project is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union.
Climate Action
Through our SICAP-funded Climate Action work, we aim to make climate action practical, accessible and relevant to everyday life — ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to take part and benefit, and that no one is left behind.
SICAP is the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme. It aims to reduce poverty and promote social inclusion and equality.
All SICAP services are free, confidential and optional.
We deliver SICAP in partnership with eight community-based organisations in Limerick City.
- Garryowen Community Development Project
- Learning Hub Limerick
- Limerick Island Community Partners
- Moyross Community Enterprise Centre
- Our Lady of Lourdes Community Services Group
- Southill Hub
- St Munchins Community Enterprise Centre
- Tait House

Our Approach
Our Climate Action work focuses on supporting communities to understand climate issues, build confidence, and take positive action at a local level. A dedicated SICAP Climate Action Worker works alongside individuals, groups and communities across Limerick City to embed climate action into community life.
Our work is guided by three key areas:
Raising awareness and building understanding through education, events and workshops that empower people to make positive environmental changes.
Working in partnership with communities, organisations and stakeholders to deliver practical climate action projects.
Advocating for a just transition, ensuring that climate action supports social inclusion, benefits everyone, and improves quality of life through practical, everyday actions.
What we do
The Climate Action Worker supports communities in a variety of ways, including:
Helping communities to develop and deliver projects that benefit both people and the environment, including support to access funding.
Supporting inclusive climate action by listening to community concerns, encouraging participation, and offering tailored workshops and one-to-one guidance to explore solutions together.
Working with local communities and partners on community-led initiatives that bring people together to identify and deliver projects with both social and environmental benefits.
Collaborating with community organisations, local businesses, and Limerick City & County Council to encourage joined-up approaches to climate action.
We deliver a range of practical, interactive workshops for groups across Limerick City, including community centres, schools, and men’s and women’s sheds. Workshops are tailored to suit the needs and interests of each group and may include:
- Home Energy Awareness workshops, covering topics such as why saving energy matters, understanding energy bills and energy plans, traditional and smart meters explained, simple actions to make homes warmer and more energy efficient, and much more
- DIY cleaning products workshops
- Food waste awareness and reduction workshops, including cooking sessions
- Gardening and growing workshops
