Tús Scheme

We provide paid, supported work placement opportunities for people who have been unemployed for 12 months or more and want to build skills, confidence and experience while contributing to their local community.
The Tús programme offers a supportive way to return to work, explore career options and take practical steps towards longer-term employment — at your own pace.

What we do

Through the Tús Community Work Placement Initiative, we offer 12-month, part-time work placements with community and voluntary organisations across Limerick City.
Placements are designed to match your skills, interests and career goals, while also supporting valuable community projects.

Participants are employed in a wide range of community-based roles, including:

  • Support roles in community centres
  • Retail assistant roles in charity shops
  • Community cafés and food preparation
  • Development and maintenance roles in recreation facilities
  • Maintenance and support roles in sporting facilities (e.g. GAA clubs, soccer clubs)

By matching individual skills and training needs with community project needs, participants gain valuable experience while communities benefit from additional support.

What’s in it for you?

  • 19.5 hours of work per week
  • A 12-month paid placement
  • Support and guidance from a dedicated Tús Supervisor
  • Weekly payment of €286.50 (maximum Jobseeker’s rate plus a €32.50 top-up)
  • You keep your existing benefits, including medical card and rent supports
  • Opportunities to build skills, confidence and work experience

The Tús Process

  • Referrals are received from the Department of Social Protection
  • Self-referral is also possible by contacting a Tús Supervisor
  • An interview is arranged to discuss skills, interests and placement options
  • A face-to-face meeting takes place with the host organisation
  • Paperwork is completed and manual handling training is provided
  • The placement begins, with ongoing support from the host organisation and the Tús team
