Saving Money and The Planet
Helping people reduce their energy costs while taking climate action is a win-win for communities across Limerick.
Limerick City Partnership's Climate Action team has been working closely with our HSE Social Prescribing team and UL's CWELL students to bring practical energy-saving advice directly to local communities. Through workshops, drop-in clinics, and community events, residents are learning simple ways to make their homes warmer, more energy efficient, and less expensive to run.
One workshop participant saw immediate benefits:
"After the workshop, I called my energy provider and directly asked for a discount. I ended up getting a 20% reduction on my energy bills going forward!"
To build long-term community capacity, Limerick City Partnership has trained local Energy Coaches who are trusted members of the communities they serve. Inspired by the successful Dutch Energy Coach model, these volunteers provide personalised advice on reducing energy use, improving home energy efficiency, accessing grants, and identifying retrofit options to suit different budgets.
Energy Coaches can deliver workshops, provide one-to-one support, run drop-in clinics, and even visit homes to offer tailored guidance based on individual circumstances.
What's Next?
We hope to continue expanding the network of trained Energy Coaches across Limerick and explore opportunities for accredited training in partnership with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB) through its NZEB programme.
Everyone's journey is different.
