A New Beginning in Childcare: Marianne's Story

After spending several months living in emergency accommodation, Marianne was determined to create a brighter future for herself and her two children. While she faced many challenges, she remained focused on improving her English, continuing her education, and finding a pathway into employment in Ireland.

Marianne first connected with Limerick City Partnership through the Conversation Café, where she practised her English in a welcoming and supportive environment while meeting people from a range of backgrounds. It was there that she learned about the one-to-one support available through SICAP for people exploring education, training, and employment opportunities.

Through a series of meetings with her SICAP caseworker, Marianne explored her interests, strengths, and long-term goals. Together, they identified the Community Employment (CE) Childcare Scheme operated by Limerick City Partnership as an opportunity that would allow her to gain experience, develop new skills, and build a career in a sector she was passionate about.

With support from the SICAP and CE Childcare teams, Marianne successfully secured a place on the programme in 2025. Since then, she has been actively engaging in training and practical learning opportunities, building both her skills and confidence as she works towards a career in childcare.

"It was so rewarding to work with Marianne, who was motivated to plan a future for herself and her children after a very tough few years. She works hard on her English and has embraced the opportunities available to her through the CE Childcare Scheme."

SICAP One-to-One Caseworker

For Marianne, the programme represents more than a training opportunity. It is a chance to build a secure future for herself and her children, develop meaningful employment skills, and take positive steps towards achieving her long-term goals.

Marianne continues to participate fully in the CE Childcare Scheme and is working towards a career in the childcare sector. With ongoing support and training, she is building the knowledge, experience, and confidence needed for the next stage of her journey.
